This study aims to conduct a comprehensive ethnobotanical survey to document and analyse the traditional knowledge and utilization of medicinal plants by local communities residing in the proximity of the Budongo Forest Reserve in Uganda. Budongo Forest, known for its rich biodiversity, is home to numerous plant species with potential medicinal properties. The research will employ a combination of qualitative and quantitative ethnobotanical methods, including interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory observations, to gather information on the indigenous uses of medicinal plants. The study’s primary objectives are to identify the plant species used in traditional medicine, document their medicinal properties, and assess the methods of preparation and administration employed by the local communities. By documenting traditional medicinal practices, this study contributes to the conservation of both plant diversity and indigenous knowledge. The findings of this ethnobotanical survey will provide valuable insights into conservation strategies, sustainable harvesting practices, and the potential integration of traditional medicine into modern healthcare systems. Additionally, the study will facilitate collaborations between local communities and conservation initiatives, fostering a holistic approach to biodiversity conservation that recognises and respects the intertwined relationship between human communities and the natural environment.
